At the beginning of each semester, sit down with your advisor and come up with your goals for the semester. What actionable tasks will you complete to achieve those goals? Communicate when you and your advisor can expect to discuss the deliverables of these tasks and goals. Set regular meetings to make reasonable changes to these deadlines as needed.
