Niba (she/her) is a multimedia science communicator based in Ramaytush Ohlone land (San Francisco, CA). She creates scientific content through articles, photos, videos, and social media. Her personal project @NotesByNiba explores the science in cosmetics, fashion, and skincare through YouTube and Instagram. She holds a B.S. in Genetics and Genomics from UC Davis, where she studied the effects of climate change on crops. She also holds a double minor in Toxicology and Diversity Studies. She received her M.S. in Genetics from Duke University, graduating with the class of 2020. Her graduate work researched the genetics, form, and function of plant roots. What does she do for PhD Balance?

Niba heads up of IDEALs (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Leadership) Team and is also a Grad Chat host and part of our Speaking Team.


The IDEALs team has several functions including creating standards for PhD Balance (e.g.) reviewing and deciding on the language used, overseeing the work of all the other teams to ensure it meets the standards set out, and executes long-term goals.
